Sean M. McCumber
I chose family law for my practice area because it provides me with opportunities to help people find creative and clear solutions to difficult issues when families dissolve. I have the opportunity to collaborate with clients in looking at better choices in responding to high-conflict issues. When working with families who want to grow, adoptions are very satisfying. Adoptive families bring a different joy to my practice, as does helping families grow through assisted reproduction and surrogacy. As a guardian ad litem and a mediator, I have the challenge of serving as a sounding board for opposing parties to help them develop the best possible agreements on how to manage their futures in a two-household setting. Not all cases end by agreement, and if I am called to litigate, you can rest assured I will do so with zeal, skill, and professionalism. My goal is to help clients to the best of my abilities.
I am a well-respected, personable attorney in northern Illinois. I practice primarily in DuPage, DeKalb, Will, Kane, and Kendall counties. I focus my practice on sensible solutions for families facing divorce, separation, or the end of a relationship, whether the case involves custody and parenting responsibilities or financial resolution. I also focus my practice on family formation, either through adoptions, assisted reproduction, or surrogacy. I have been ranked as a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network in family law, adoption law, and alternative dispute resolution, and have been named one of the top 10 adoption attorneys in Illinois. I serve as a guardian ad litem in various family law matters and have been recognized by the circuit courts of DuPage, Kendall, and Kane counties as a respected and caring advocate for children.
When I am not practicing law, I find ways to keep active. I volunteer as a science coach at a local elementary school. I was born and raised in the Wheaton area, where I currently reside with my daughter.
