Child and Spousal Support

DuPage County Child and Spousal Support Attorneys

In most cases, child support payments are determined by Illinois child support statutes. Maintenance (alimony) is much more complex. At the law firm of Sullivan Taylor & Gumina, in Wheaton, Illinois, our attorneys have an in-depth understanding of child and spousal support matters as they relate to Illinois divorce cases. We understand the formula used and can provide you with an estimate of how much child support you can expect to pay (or receive), as well as the legal obligations involved when illness or loss of employment affects your ability to pay.

Regardless of whether you are involved in a divorce or need a post-divorce modification of child support or spousal maintenance payments, we can help. To schedule an appointment, contact child support lawyers at the law firm of Sullivan Taylor & Gumina today.

In Illinois, child support guidelines are defined by statute: If you have 1 child your child support will be 20% of your spouse's net income, 2 children 28%, 3 children 32%, 4 children, 40% 5 children, 45%, 6 or more children, 50%. However these guidelines can be affected by custody issues as well as income and net worth of the parents.

We work closely with our clients before and after the divorce is final to ensure that child support payments are fair and take into account the special psychological and physical needs of the child, the changing circumstance of the parents, and the legally required contributions toward the child's college education.

Illinois Spousal Support

Maintenance (alimony) describes payments made by one spouse to another to preserve their lifestyle when the earning capacity of one is significantly greater than the earning capacity of the other. We work closely with our clients to understand their financial situation, their earning capacity, and to help ensure their financial future is secure even after the divorce. Our spousal support attorneys recognize that financial situations change over time and we have significant experience handling post-divorce modifications of spousal support awards.
