Missing Illinois Children May Be Victims of Child Abuse

Three children that were most recently seen on Feb. 27 are believed to be in Key West Fl. and in danger after being reported missing from Kankakee, Il. Illinois law enforcement is looking to the public for assistance to bring these children back home to safety.

Artistic Fletcher, 1, Nicholas Lane, 5, and Damien Kelly, 7, are possibly accompanied by two adults in the Keys. Recently, a missing-child alert was issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The two adults are described as having multiple tattoos. The man, Arthur Fletcher, 32, is white, about 6’2” and around 205 pounds. Kristen Kelly-Fletcher, 28, has brown hair, is about 5’5” and about 165 pounds. These two are the parents of the missing children.

Authorities have not yet shared why they believe that the family is in the Keys.

Reports state that Arthur was recently accused of taking the youngest child from a Kankakee hospital where the baby’s bruises were being examined for possible child abuse.

The Fletcher’s home has previously been investigated by agents from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for reports of child abuse. The parents, however, claimed that the bruises were from Artistic’s daycare center.

The warrant that allowed the state to take custody of the three children came after the parents left during the exam of Artistic at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital.

According to the FDLE, a missing-child alert is activated if the situation meets the following criteria:

  • The child is under age 18.
  • The law enforcement agency’s preliminary investigation concludes that life is in danger.
  • Descriptive information and a photograph of the child are available.
  • The agency of jurisdiction approves the issuance of the alert.
