Maureen Sullivan Taylor

Maureen Sullivan Taylor is the founder of the law firm of Sullivan Taylor, Gumina & Palmer, P.C., established in 1994. She focuses her family law practice in divorce, alternative dispute resolution, including Collaborative Law; Arbitration; Mediation; and litigation of child parenting responsibility issues, income allocation, and asset distribution. She serves as a guardian ad litem (GAL) and as a Parenting Coordinator. Maureen is admitted to practice to the Bar in Illinois; the United States District Court Northern District of Illinois and the United States Supreme Court. She has been selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association; Leading Lawyer; Leading Lawyer Top Neutral; Illinois Super Lawyer; Awards from Daily Herald Business Ledger for “Influential Woman in Business” and “Award for Business Excellence.”

For her law degree, Maureen attended the Northern Illinois University College of Law, where she graduated in 1982 with her Juris Doctor degree. During her time at NIU, she interned at the United States Attorneys’ Office, worked with the Northern Illinois University Law Review, and was honored with the American Jurisprudence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Matrimonial Law.

Upon being admitted to practice law, Maureen spent several years working for various law firms before forming her practice in 1994 and dedicating herself to utilizing her years of extensive experience to provide compassionate family law services to people throughout the Chicago area and suburbs.

Maureen has considerable experience in the realm of family law, and has been involved with many professional organizations concerning this area of expertise; some of her current associations include being a fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois, a mediator with the DuPage County Mandatory Family Law Mediation Program, and Arbitrator & Chairperson with the DuPage County Mandatory Court-Annexed Arbitration Program. Also, she is a member of over a dozen other associations, some of which are the American, Illinois State, and DuPage County Bar Associations, the National Association of Counsel for Children, the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.

As one of the top family law attorneys in Illinois, Maureen has received numerous accolades such as being recognized as a Super Lawyer and Leading Lawyer, being selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the American Trial Lawyers Association, and receiving the State of Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs Certificate of Appreciation.

Community involvement includes Maureen’s service as a member of the Family Shelter Services Advisory Board; providing support to the Lilac Tree that offers resources for persons in the divorce process, and the Grant Park Orchestral Association Board of Directors.

Admitted to practice law in 1982, Maureen Sullivan Taylor graduated with a J.D. from Northern Illinois University Law School. In addition to interning at the United States’ Attorneys’ Office, Maureen was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for Outstanding Achievement in Matrimonial Law and also served on the Law Review. Founder of the firm, Maureen is a trained and experienced mediator, and is both a Fellow of the Collaborative Law Institute of Illinois and a member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals.

Maureen is admitted to the United States Supreme Court and the Northern District of Illinois Federal Court and was selected as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers of 2008 by the American Trial Lawyers Association. She has presented at numerous seminars and has contributed numerous articles pertaining to family law and issues surrounding divorce.
