Paternity, now called parentage, can be established in a number of ways: through a DNA test, by signing a statement of paternity, or by acting in a manner that indicates that you are the parent of the child. Typically, establishing parentage is only a step toward a larger goal, such as obtaining parental responsibilities (child custody), parenting time, financial support, or medical care for a child. We have also helped a number of unmarried couples establish the parentage of their children. Our firm regularly represents fathers and mothers in efforts to establish paternity or to legally disprove parentage.
